AustinMedia is a Hawke’s Bay-based media and communications company founded in 2018 by journalists Andrew and Astrid Austin.

Built on a foundation of quality journalism, AustinMedia helps organisations tell their stories, strengthen connections with their communities and communicate with confidence.

For us, communication is about more than simply sharing information. It is about helping people understand why something matters. Andrew Austin spent 36 years in journalism, including six years as Editor of Hawke’s Bay Today. Throughout his career, he developed a reputation for high-quality journalism, strong community connections and a deep understanding of the role communication plays in building trust and engagement.

Astrid Austin began her journalism career at the age of 15, interning at Hawke’s Bay Today before going on to work as a reporter covering education, health, local government and community issues. Today, she continues to build on the values and principles that shaped AustinMedia from the beginning: integrity, professionalism, strong storytelling and a commitment to helping clients communicate effectively.

AustinMedia combines journalistic expertise with practical communications support. Our services include media relations, feature writing, strategic storytelling, crisis communications, content creation, newsletters and communications advice.

While based in Hawke’s Bay, AustinMedia works with clients throughout New Zealand.
